Audience demand: More than one hundred annual furry conventions worldwide receive hundreds of thousands of devoted guests each year and the subculture is swiftly growing-an ever-increasing part of the cosplay audience who flood comi-cons (which receive 150,000 attendees at the NYC one alone)&8212;and there are hundreds of social media groups uniting furries. Akin to Harajuku-styled subcultures (Lolita, gothic Lolita, etc.), steampunk subcultures, and anime, manga, and comic book character cherishing subcultures, a devoted furry subculture exists, demanding to be noticed and eager for products like Furry Planet.&10;&10;Proven market appeal: Much like how Gothic & Lolita (6,700 RTD), The Hero's Closet (5,000 RTD), A Geek in Japan (39,400 RTD across formats), and The Steampunk Bible (35,200 RTD) reached their subcultures, the furry audience is hungry for its bible. The only books currently existing on furries are how-to-draw ones, like Drawing Fantastic Furries (10,800 RTD) and How to Draw Manga Furries (9,600) RTD), and Furry Planet author Joe Strike&8217;s prior book, Furry Nation, published by Cleis Press, which has sold 2,000 copies.
