The product features a 14-bit rotary position sensor with digital angle output and pulse width modulation (PWM) interface. The AS5048A is a 14-bit rotary position sensor for absolute angle measurement over 360 degrees, based on non-contact magnetic sensor technology. The device is suitable for shaft applications where a two-pole magnet rotates above or below the sensor IC. The zero position can be programmed using standard SPI commands. Absolute magnetic angular position resolution is 14 bits (16,384 steps per revolution). It supports SPI and I²C interfaces for digital angle data output, and provides PWM output for analog-like signal transmission. No precise mechanical alignment is required between the sensor’s zero position and the magnet’s poles — the zero point can be programmed during assembly via SPI or I²C commands. The device offers high mechanical tolerance, including misalignment between sensor and magnet, air gap variation, and operation across a temperature range of –40 °C to +150 °C. The AS5048 delivers improved accuracy compared to previous magnetic rotary encoders. Its 14-bit analog front end enables a theoretical resolution of 0.0219°. With microcontroller-based linearization and averaging, typical angle accuracy reaches 0.05°.
